I think active pinging is restricted in peace time to protect whales... Also if you are detached from the main fleet on convoy duty active pinging could invite a shootout if the other side is armed...

Why rush the new design? Why not finish out the LCS more or less as designed. In the mean time, come up with a new design that was actually what the USN wants now, and then build it once it's ready....

I don't think a SSC designed for picket and ASuW duties, needs SM-2/6 capability. -high mast with decent surface/air search radar; -drone hangar and control room; no helo; drones are your main eyes...
